Orchard Time! 21 lbs of Apples for $13!

I have been patiently waiting for Apple Orchard time, so I decided to check out the website of my local Orchard (Anderson Orchard- Mooresville, IN). And guess what? It’s apple orchard time! Apples are ripening earlier than normal this year, so you may want to check with your local orchard as well! At my orchard, Gala, Golden Supreme, Jonathan, and Cortland Apples are ready!

(Look, we went to the orchard so that he and Buzz could swing on a different swing)

I thought my kids would have fun picking apples straight from the trees in the orchard. They had other plans. There is a playground at the entrance of the orchard, they did not want to go anywhere past the playground. After an hour on the playground, I had to drag my 2 year old away screaming! People stared!

So instead of picking our own apples, I bought a peck and a half of pre-picked apples. I weighed out the apples when I got home, 21 lbs! I went for the bags that looked the fullest, notice how the apples are coming out of the top in the picture.

Fresh Apples for $.61/lb! Now to start making applesauce, apple crisp, apple butter, apple chips…..And in a little over a week I’m hitting an orchard in Michigan too! It’s one of my FAVE childhood places!
