Again, as I said about 2 weeks ago, I am redo-ing my tiny monster man’s room so that it is his own manly space – he was sharing with his sister. This makeover is planned to be low budget and full of Pinterest-ing projects!…. Here’s the original post with the room makeover plan.
Yesterday, I just finished the bed. We had a perfectly good twin bed that was my oldest daughter’s and then my youngest daughter’s…but it was pink! But instead of tossing it and buying new…I painted it! Here’s the finished project!
Today I finished sewing throw pillows to turn my son’s crib into a window seating area!
This project was super easy! All I did was take off the drop side and sew some pillows. Keep the crib matress on there and keep it covered with a crib sheet! (sorry the lighting is bad…and it isn’t even centered on the window…oh well!) 1 yard of fabric made 2 pillows.
(random closeup of the dino pillow – just because I LOVE it!)
Cost:
- 1 yard Polka Dot Fabric $10.99/yd – 60% coupon (joann fabrics) = $4.40
- 1 yard Striped Fabric $5/yd (red dot clearance) = $5
- 1 yard Dino Fabric on sale @ $4.79/yd
- 32 oz bag o stuffing $8.99 – 40% coupon (joann fabrics) = $5.39
- 12 oz bag o stuffing @ Goodwill $.99
- Big Ugly Floor Pillow @ Goodwill $2.49 (I tore this open just for the stuffing!)
- Already had the crib, mattress, and sheet $0
Total = $23.06
This is the Big Ugly Floor Pillow that I found at Goodwill, as listed in my cost breakdown. I had first bought 2 bags of stuffing, which are way more expensive than I would have figured, but they only did 5 out of 6 of the pillows. So I decided to check out Goodwill to see if they had a bag of stuffing (long shot but I did find one earlier in the week) or anything else I could use. And then I found this BIG UGLY Floor pillow for just $2.49! I just ripped it open to use it for it’s stuffing. I only needed to fill one more pillow for Brogan’s room, but when I get done with his room, I am moving on to the girls’ room and there will be pillow projects!
Anyway…the moral of this story is to go into Goodwill (or other thrift stores) with an open mind and be creative! Not only did I save on stuffing material, but I also hugged a tree by re-purposing the big ugly pillow.
