Project: Boy’s Room on a Budget! Name Wall & Reading Area!

I am redo-ing my tiny monster man’s room so that it is his own manly space – he was sharing with his sister. This makeover is planned to be low budget and full of Pinterest-ing projects!…. Here’s the original post with the room makeover plan.

I have finished the bed. We had a perfectly good twin bed that was my oldest daughter’s and then my youngest daughter’s…but it was pink! But instead of tossing it and buying new…I painted it! Here’s the finished project! and I made a nice seating area out of his old crib…Check out the finished project here!

Now I finally finished both his name wall and a little reading area.

Before:

After:

This used to be the wall where my daughter, Gwendolyn’s name was..I REALLY REALLY did not want to paint the whole wall. So we repainted green over the pink, reused the frames, and moved the letters of “BROGAN” into these frames. There were a couple extra spaces left open, so I found some monster at Walmart for $.25 each! This was a great find, since I was looking for Decals of monsters and they wanted at least $15 for a set.

Here’s a pic of the Monsters I found. These were on clearance in the school supply section! I just stuck a command strip on the back of it to hang!

Cost:

  • Green Paint Quart $11.97 – $10 Lowes Q (for signing up w/Mylowes) = $1.97
  • 3 Monsters @ $.25 – $.75
  • 3 of Command strips 4 pks @ $3.97 = $11.91
  • Already had Letters, Frames, Primer $0

Total = $14.63

And then I did a little reading area… I found some old wooden dining chairs at Goodwill for $5.99 each and then a shutter for $3.50!

This wasn’t in the original plans for the room but I loved the chairs and had seen a Pinterest project where someone used a shutter for mail, invites, paper storage in a kitchen. So I found a set of cheap plastic shutters still shrink wrapped in original packaging for $6.99 at Goodwill and decided to use one shutter in the kitchen and one as a “bookshelf” in Brogan’s room.

Here’s what the chairs looked before they’re paint job:

Cost:

  • Blue Paint Quart $11.97
  • 2 Chairs at Goodwill $11.98
  • Plastic Shutter at Goodwill $3.50
  • Already had orange paint from bed $0

Total = $27.45
